Past the farm fields of wind turbines scattered across the landscape like a sea of wings lies the small city of River Eagle, Texas, just south of the Red River Valley. The quaint, cozy community has been experiencing a large-scale disruption for over a decade as a new communications tower now looms over the city, greeting those who come by the 283 US Highway. The bold, golden letters attached to the tower read “ADN Communication Tower of River Eagle,” with many cables and antennas strung about the dark steel beams. The city mayor inaugurated the tower and announced the collaboration with Armadillo Dial Network (ADN) as he cut the ribbon to welcome the new structure into town. ADN made the bold statement to the Townsfolk of River Eagle.

“Dear citizens of River Eagle. It is with great honor that we at Armadillo Dial Networks can work with your locally elected River Eagle officials to provide this city with our greatest structure yet. For our agreement, the Armadillo Dial Network Communication Tower of River Eagle will provide free phone lines with unlimited talk, text, and data, free WiFi throughout the city, and heavily discounted rates on the latest phones and laptops. Free devices are available to all household individuals with our proprietary phones and computers. Sign up today! We will be waiting for you, our fellow neighbors.”

The Tower, as the locals called it, had many skeptics who have held off from receiving their devices as critics lambaste River Eagle officials for such careless collaboration and allocation of county funds. It took several months before widespread adoption of the Armadillo Phone and the Armadillo Laptop has reached the many homes and businesses of the people of River Eagle. Many local businesses have switched their systems to rely on the newly available city-wide WiFi networks and switched their systems to the proprietary Armadillo computers while the ones that didn't are finding it difficult to keep up with the times. As a result, a lot of small local businesses that didn't adopt closed its doors for good.

The older generations have their gripes that the relience of tech is only going to further arode River Eagle's rich history while the younger generation have agreed that the Tower is what the dying ciy needs to save it. Pushback between wealth disparities and shifting of times causes a lot of tension as the technology has driven everybody both closer and further apart.

Today, River Eagle host a celebration parade in honor of the Tower's Creation. Local townsfolks gather around the floats and horse with their Armadillo Phones taking pictures and recording videos. All was going well during the parade until the town started getting strange calls from the Tower’s Cell Services…
